Weathernews Inc. and HD Hyundai Marine Solution Co., Ltd. have signed a Framework Agreement to accelerate the commercialization and broader deployment of OSR-OW, an AI-powered route optimization solution. The agreement marks a significant step forward in the companies’ collaboration following the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2025.

The agreement was formalized at a signing ceremony held at Weathernews’ headquarters in Chiba, Japan, attended by Tomohiro Ishibashi, President and CEO of Weathernews, and Sung Joon Kim, President and CEO of HD Hyundai Marine Solution.

From Collaboration to Commercialization

Since signing the MOU, the two companies have conducted trials of OSR-OW—short for Optimum Ship Routeing × OceanWise—which combines Weathernews’ weather forecasting and Optimum Ship Routeing expertise with HD Hyundai Marine Solution’s AI-based vessel performance modeling technology.

Trials confirmed fuel savings of at least 3%, demonstrating the solution’s commercial potential. Building on these results, the Framework Agreement provides a foundation for securing initial commercial contracts and expanding the deployment of OSR-OW.

Under the agreement, the companies will pursue initial contracts with Korean shipping operators, conduct joint marketing activities for global customers, and expand digital collaboration using vessel data and AI technology.

OSR-OW can be applied to vessels already using either company’s existing services without requiring additional equipment or software installation, helping lower the barrier to adoption.

Weathernews and HD Hyundai Marine Solution plan to gradually roll out OSR-OW across the companies’ existing customer base of approximately 8,000 vessels.

What’s Next

Weathernews and HD Hyundai Marine Solution will continue working toward the global expansion of OSR-OW, supporting shipping operators in reducing fuel costs and responding to increasingly stringent environmental regulations.

The companies will also continue exploring new opportunities for digital collaboration using vessel data and AI technology.
